About Rotary District 3181

RI District 3181 is new district carved out of RI District 3180, having been bifurcated into RID 3181 and RID 3182,the effective Rotary year 2016 – 17. Four revenue districts of Southern Karnataka, viz., Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar form the District 3181.

Geography

The district has varied geography including a flourishing coastal area, the ecologically mind-boggling Western Ghats, parts of Malnad and vast plains of the Deccan Plateau, with the river Cauvery as its main lifeline. Its climate is essentially tropical, with heavy rainfall in the Ghats and Coastal belt and moderate rainfall in the plains, during monsoon. The Rotary District has a population of 70 Lakhs with a geographical area of 21,500 SqKm.

Dakshina Kannada – Self sustenance of the Sea-faring

Mangaluru is aptly called the commercial capital of Karnataka. Lying between the roaring Arabian Sea in the west, and the majestic Western Ghats in the east, Mangaluru is the land of lush green fields, meandering rivers, and thick evergreen forests. It is noted for its folk Tulunadu culture and customs and is an educational, health, banking, medical, dental and engineering centre. Water parks and the beautiful beaches, historic temples of Subramanya, Dharmasthala, Kateel, Jain monuments are its tourist attractions.

Mysuru – Cultural and historical, with regal splendour

A historic, cultural and traditional city with its Dasara festivities and Jamboo Savari, royal city of palaces, carrying with it the fragrances of agarbathis and sandalwood, a centre for aromatherapy and essential oils, silk and handicrafts, yoga capital of the world, and an educational centre, Mysuru is known for Mysore Pak, Mysore style of painting, Mysore Mallige, Mysore Peta and Mysore betel leaf. The city of palaces is tourist attraction with the Chamundi hills, Brindavan Gardens and Bird & Wildlife sanctuaries all around. And to top it all, it is the cleanest city in India, for two years running. Mysuru has a year round pleasant climate and is a safe and secure city.

Kodagu – the land of warriors and Switzerland of the South

Kodagu is located at an altitude of 3000 ft. with pleasant climate. Known for its brave military heroes and its typical European climate, the district grows coffee, cardamom, pepper, oranges, bananas, etc. Tourist spots include: Raja seat in Madikeri, Abbey falls, Talacauvery, Nisargadhama, Harangi dam, Nagarahole, etc.

Chamarajanagara – The silk tip of Karnataka

Carved out of the District of Mysuru in 1997, known for its sericulture, the district is in the southern most part of Karnataka, and lies at the tri-junction of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The area is endowed with extensive forests and has a tribal belt. Tourists spots include: Bandipur National Park, BR Hills, MM Hills, Gopalaswamy Hills.
